Wow it's been a busy week, snow, rain, and sorting fleeces.

Taylah and I have hand picked some lovely white Cormo fleeces

So all you people anxiously waiting, your white Cormo will be on your doorstep anyday.

I just love it when the fleeces come in, they are just sooo delicious you could just roll in them, Yum!

Just can't wait to start spinning in the grease. Actually talking about spinning in the grease, Cormo is perfect, it doesn't have the stickiness some other fleeces have.

As a special treat I have chosen a superfine fleece for those of you who love to spin and create in lace.

There is a limited quantity, only one fleece so let me know when you order if you want the superfine.

This very beautiful vest pictured below has been made by Leonie.

Leonie bought the Gotland/Polwarth and loves the fibre so much she has now bought Gotland Lamb for another project.

The vest is a beautiful grey, soft to touch and has excellent detail when knitted as you can see.

Leonie spun the wool very fine, fantastic job Leonie, I'm looking forward to seeing your next project.

 

Gotland is a very rare wool/fibre.

The Gotland breed originally comes from the Swedish Island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The Gotland is a native Landrace breed belonging to the Northern European short-tailed group of sheep.

Although the micron is on the higher side the wool has a very soft fluffy feel and is a delight to spin.

Currently in stock is Gotland/Polwarth 50/50 mix, very soft and pictured above.

Gotland Lamb also very soft and fluffy to the touch, it's colour is similar to the picture above, slightly darker. Both are the same price.

Ok I'm a sucker, had another call, another twin is in trouble.

My husband says "No more, we have enough", sadly I have to agree, no more after I pick up Maple.

Off I go again with Daisy in tow, and we are introduced to Maple (our daughter Taylah let me know her name on her way to school this morning).

So Daisy has a friend and seems to be quite happy about it, here they are relaxing in the sun in their puppy pen.

Maple is on the left, she is a day old and little Daisy is on the right, she is 6 days old.

 

 

Got a call today, an English Leicester ewe has rejected one of her twins,(unusual) would I like to have her. hmmm, yes, no, yes, no, YES. Yes please, got off the phone and jumped up and down excitedly.

So Taylah and I are off again,  my very patient husband once again rolls his eyes and sighs.

Picked up some lovely Corriedale fleece on the way, a soft white lusturous fleece. Email if you would like some.

Anyway little Daisy is home safe and sound and Taylah is doing a great job looking after her.

 

 

Today was an exciting day, Taylah my 10yr old daughter and I visited the shearing sheds. The shearing of the coloured Cormo's was happening, an exciting event.

We arrived and were welcomed by Peter the breeder of the Cormo's, some sheep had already been shorn and were outside, I just happened to spot a half grown lamb who had grey tonings, she said she would like to come home with me so I bought her.

Ok in the shed, camera's clicking, Taylah and I could hardly contain ourselves, but we had to calm down a little so the shearers didn't think we were too strange, not sure that we achieved this goal.

There were 4-5 shearers working, a rous- a-bout, 2 fellows skirting and classing fleece and one chappy drenching the shorn sheep.

I chose some beautiful grey fleeces and a very soft brown fleece, actually I liked it so much I bought the sheep. I think Peter definately thought I was peculiar by now.

I didn't worry about the black and brown fleeces because I'll have some from our own Cormo's in November.

We couldn't get white fleeces at the time but I will be picking them up in a couple of weeks.

We stuffed the fleeces in the back seat and Cadbury(light brown) and Maisy hopped in the back of the ute and came home with us, they are settling in nicely.

Today we brought home two beautiful Lincoln boys. They are about 6 months old a little suspicious but they have lovely personalities.

In fact the boys are very lucky, because if they didn't come home with us, it was off to market for them. That's the way it is for wethers.

Actually all our residents (Aplacas, Cormo sheep, the Lincolns and the Chooks) are lucky because they live on a farm ran by vegetarians.

Ok back to the Lincolns, Curly is white and Perm is a grey/black. Their fleece is quite interesting, it grows 12 inches or 30cm in a year. This means they need to be shorn twice a year.

The fleece falls in long wavey locks, it is quite course, weavers tend to like it because of it's strength.

Lincoln is now considered a rare breed in Australia, the boys came from the only Lincoln stud left in Tasmania, apparently there is only around 10 studs left Australia wide, such a shame because we are losing our variety of fleece.

To support these herds spinners and weavers need to create a demand for their fleece.
