Tasmanian English Leicester

One of the oldest known British breeds of sheep, the English Leicesters arrived in Australia in 1826, now listed as a heritage breed.

English Leicester is a hardy breed, it's wool is classified a s 'Longwool'.

A very pretty sheep with an easy going personality.

Wool from the English Leicester has a very high lustre with a beautiful wavey crimp with a staple length up to 25cms or 10inches, micron between 32 - 40.

Uses: great for jumpers that need to be more hard wearing, great for hand dyeing, weaving wall hangings, rugs and bags. The finer micron is used for lace knitting.

A rarebreed in Australia with only a couple of studs left in Tasmania.
